NELLER - Australian History

The NELLER surname has only a short history in Australia with only six generations on record. The first to arrive landed at Moreton Bay (Brisbane) in 1858 aboard the ship "Irene". Joseph NELLER (43), his wife Mary (39), and their children Charles (12), Eleanor (11), Maria (9), and Joseph (6), were granted passage to Australia from the United Kingdom as Assisted Immigrants. Another son was born on the voyage.

My Line:

David was the first NELLER born in Australia to Joseph and Mary. He subsequently moved to Maitland, NSW, where he married Hannah Walters. They gave birth to three children, Charles (1894), Ellen (1896), and Lillian (1900).

Charles NELLER fought in WWI during the years of 1917-1919 as a Private in the Australian Army 34th Battalion (View AWM Image Record). Upon his return from duty, he married Alice Norman in 1922 at West Maitland. Charles and Alice had two sons whom remain alive today.
